Women with their accompanying children who are fleeing domestic violence, homeless or at risk of homelessness, refugees, newcomers, or non-status.
A Zakat assessment is conducted upon move in of the client and is based on the National Zakat Foundation assessment process. This assessment includes:
Rent
Utilities
Food
Staff: 1 – 2 caseworkers, Mental health counsellor, House manager, Facility maintenance, Childcare worker, Leads
Transportation (ie. Bus/train tickets or pass)
Household supplies (ex. Tissue, toys, furniture, cleaning supplies etc.)
Household maintenance (fixing anything broken etc.)
Security System
Gift cards
Proportional HQ cost per location
A Zakat assessment is conducted upon move in of the client and is based on the National Zakat Foundation assessment process. This assessment includes:
A full financial asset and liability review by examining the income, savings, expenses and debt of the client.
3 months bank statements (as well as any other account statements such as RRSP, RESP etc.)
Income and asset against expenses (anticipated and current) and debts.
The assessment is done on an annual basis.
Nisa Homes will provide the following financial assistance based on client needs:
Gift Cards: Grocery, Food, Furniture, Medication, Clothing
Transportation
Rent
Clients will sign an agreement giving consent to Nisa Foundation to provide them Zakat through services and residence at Nisa Homes instead of direct cash/fund transfers.
They will be informed when applying to Nisa Homes that we will conduct a financial assessment to see if they are Zakat eligible and will be required to sign the agreement if they wish to receive services.
Once they are deemed eligible for the program itself (in-home or remote), they will then sign the official and detailed agreement.
Shared costs of the home: Whenever Non-Zakat Eligible clients stay in a home; the percentage of Zakat vs Non-Zakat eligible clients will be calculated, then that percentage will be subtracted from the total direct cost of the home for that month and will be paid through sadaqah or grants.
Costs and assistance to be provided through grants and/or sadaqah.
For example: There are 10 clients at the Edmonton Home, 2 are Non-Zakat eligible = 20%
.
The total program costs of the Edmonton home is $10,000.20 % of $10,000 = $2,000 paid from sadaqah or grants.
