Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is a very special time for Muslims around the world. It reminds us of the story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) AS, who was ready to sacrifice his son, Isma'il, to show his love and obedience to Allah (God). Allah (SWT) stopped him and provided a ram to sacrifice instead.
Today millions of Muslims go to Hajj every year to follow in the footsteps of Hajar. For them, the day of Eid marks an important milestone in their pilgrimage as they go on a journey to learn about sacrifice and giving.
This year, the Day of Arafah is expected to be on Thursday, June 5th, so Eid al-Adha will likely be on Friday, June 6th, depending on moon sighting.
Eid al-Adha is usually celebrated for three days, until June 9th. These days are filled with prayer, gratitude, and generosity.
On the first day of Eid, after the Eid prayer, Muslims who are able offer a sacrifice (Qurbani). This can be a sheep, goat, cow, or camel. The meat is then divided into three parts: one for your family, one for friends and neighbours, and one for people in need.
It is a beautiful way to remember Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) trust in Allah and to help those facing hardship.
Even if you’re not at Hajj this year, you can still make Eid al-Adha special at home. Here are some meaningful and fun ways to celebrate with your family:
Download our Eid decoration pack and bring joy into your home with a custom Eid banner. Make it a family activity where kids can cut, colour, and hang up the decorations with pride.
Our printable Eid cards are a fun craft for kids. They can colour them in, write kind messages inside, and give them to grandparents, neighbours, or friends along with their Eidi (Eid money).
Try cooking a family-favourite Eid dish or a new recipe together. Bake cookies or make treats to share with others. Food brings everyone together, and making it together creates lasting memories.
Dress in your best clothes and go for Eid prayer as a family. It’s a beautiful way to connect with your community and start the day with gratitude.
Wrap small gifts or prepare Eidi envelopes for children. It adds excitement to the day and makes children feel loved and included.
Play games, go for a picnic, or have a movie night at home. You can also talk about the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and what it teaches us about trust and sacrifice.
Teach children about Qurbani and the importance of sharing with those less fortunate. Let them help choose a charity or write a note to include with your donation.
As you celebrate, don’t forget the women and children in our care homes. A small donation can help us buy them gifts and make Eid special for them too. Your support brings smiles, joy, and comfort to those who are going through difficult times.
To make giving easier during these sacred days, you can also automate your donations for the Best 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah—so your charity reaches those in need every single day.
This year, our Dhul Hijjah theme is "She is the Ummah." Your support ensures that single mothers and their children are not left out of the blessings of Eid. From shelter and food to emotional support and festive experiences, your generosity helps us honour their courage and uplift their lives.
Give today—because when you support her, you support the entire Ummah.
Let’s make this Eid al-Adha a time of giving, gratitude, and compassion—together.
May this Eid bring peace, love, and blessings to you and your family.
