Dhul Hijjah is a sacred month—full of opportunities to gain closeness to Allah, give generously, and renew our faith. And among its first 10 blessed days, one day stands above the rest: the Day of Arafah.
This year, the Day of Arafah is expected to fall on either Thursday June 5th, 2025 or Friday, June 6, 2025, depending on moon sighting.
This is the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah—the day when millions of pilgrims stand on the plain of Arafah during Hajj, making heartfelt dua and seeking Allah’s forgiveness. For those not performing Hajj, it's still a day of immense blessing and opportunity.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: " It is a day when Allah frees more people from Hellfire than any other day of the year.” (Sahih Muslim 1348)
It’s also the day Allah perfected our religion:
“This day I have perfected for you your religion, completed My favour upon you, and have approved for you Islam as your religion.” (Qur’an 5:3)
For pilgrims, standing at Arafah is the heart of Hajj. But if you’re not in Hajj this year, don’t worry! There’s still lots to do to get closer to Allah, seek forgiveness, and multiply good deeds on this blessed day.
Here are five powerful ways you can maximize the reward of this sacred day:
Fasting on this day is one of the most emphasized Sunnah acts.
“It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.” (Sahih Muslim)
This fast is only for non-pilgrims—those not performing Hajj. It is a powerful way to gain blessings and become closer to Allah (SWT).
This day is a good opportunity to reflect, and reconnect with Allah’s words. Even a few verses, read with sincerity, can bring immense reward.
Increase in remembrance of Allah with phrases the Prophet ﷺ recommended during these 10 days. Some good phrases to repeat and remember include:
1- SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)
2- Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah)
3- La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
4- Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
It is also recommended to pray for forgiveness for our own shortcomings. The Day of ‘Arafah is a time for introspection and reflection. We should aim to reflect upon our actions during the past year, seek to rectify our shortcomings, and ask for forgiveness for our sins.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best supplication is the one made on the Day of Arafah.” (Tirmidhi)
Pour your heart out to Allah. Make dua for yourself, your loved ones, the Ummah—and especially for the oppressed, the sick, and those in hardship.
Remember the mothers who cry alone at night. The children sleeping in shelters. The women starting over after abuse. Make dua for them too.
