During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims across Canada come together in devotion, fasting from Suhoor until Iftar. Observing the correct fasting and prayer timings allows us to worship with mindfulness, peace, and sincerity, ensuring that each moment of this sacred month is honoured.
Suhoor is the pre-dawn meal before the fast begins. It ends at the time of Fajr prayer, which marks the start of the day’s fast. Once Fajr begins, eating and drinking come to an end as the heart turns fully toward worship.
Suhoor nourishes both the body and the soul, helping us prepare for a day of patience, remembrance, and spiritual striving.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged Suhoor: “Take Suhoor as there is a blessing in it." [Bukhari]
Iftar is the meal that breaks the fast at the end of the day. Iftar is at Maghrib prayer time, just as the sun sets. Across the world, Muslims break their fast with dates and water, following the beautiful Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Iftar is a time of gratitude, a moment to thank Allah ﷻ for strength, sustenance, and the opportunity to draw closer to Him through fasting.
