The first day is always the hardest day, a lot of changes and a lot of emotions.
I welcome her in and offer her a glass of water.
And as she drinks the water, she looks around the room afraid to catch her breath.
Thinking why she was put in a position that she requires a shelter this badly.
It seems too foggy in her mind and soul.
But with a small comfort she knows that Nisa Homes will be a safe haven for her

In the middle of the day, while the resident is arranging her room, the rest of the clients come over to greet their new member.
Eyes tear up and a silence starts to take hold.
To break the silence, someone says “it shall pass, it just needs time.”
You can see the tears turning into smiles.

A knock at the office door.
The client asks to come in with a heavy breath.
She inhales the details of the room.
And she pauses for a minute and says, “thank you for having me.”
And the heaviness in her heart slowly fades away.

I always know that the next question will bring loneliness to her heart.
“I am about to leave; do you need anything else?”
Tears will be about to form before I say, “But I will see you tomorrow.”
The relief eases a bit but never goes away.
And I go knowing that the rest of the clients will take care of each other.

No one says it easy, and no one says that it will be that difficult
But time as the saying goes heals the wound.
And within 3 months the first day will be all forgotten
As the client takes in more sunny days even in the winter days.
